Drew Holcomb Alpharetta Concert reviews
Counting Crows amazing... w/ LIVE (the band) okay
At the show I saw, Drew Holcomb didn't play "Mr. Jones," the song that put them on the map for many. They always put on a decent show with lots of musical artistry, not always playing every chart topper. However, I promise you will leave the show appreciating one, two, or three songs even more.
As for the band LIVE, the sound quality at Daily's Place in Jax was terrible. Drum bass from two drummers, complemented by the bass guitar, cymbal crashes mixing with the electric guitars, all made Ed's vocals sound like a muddled mess. It seemed like someone forgot to sound check LIVE or they didn't have time to dial in the sound for the venue. Ed is super talented, so it wasn't like they were trying to hide his vocals. In fact, his acoustic set with the song "Heaven" sounded fine. The bad sound affected the energy of LIVE's show, as the crowd couldn't really understand Ed as he tried to interact with them. The show ended with "Lightning Crashes," an exciting song to hear, but that was pretty much it. It would be great to hear them again with the sound mixing fixed, but without that, you might as well skip their act or just show up for the last song.
